Hello She Writes Press authors! Thank you so much for taking a few minutes to complete our annual 2015 She Writes Press survey. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us and will help us improve the She Writes Press experience for our authors and ultimately, our readers.
Your answers are completely confidential, really! We have no way of knowing who answers what (unless you want to leave us a note at the end of the survey). We want your honest opinion of the services and experience you had with She Writes Press, so let’s get started!
Perhaps what I appreciate most about my SWP experience is that both the leadership of SWP and my author colleagues act in a supportive, generous, inclusive way toward one another. I also appreciated that Brooke Warner helped me to write the best version of my book, rather than forcing me to make it into something I didn’t intend it to be.
My only real disappointment was in the proofreading of my novel. I was quite shocked at how many typos were in the final copy. I would not have objected to finding a few, but I found a couple of dozen. When I checked back on the edits provided to me by the proofreader, none of the ones I found in my final copy were ones she’d pointed out. They were simply missed.
I recognize that many of the deficits I site above were likely because of the infancy of SWP at the time I came on. Much of this has since been improved. I even feel a little green-eyed watching what the more recent authors are doing in terms of marketing, events, promotions, etc.
Despite these small criticisms, I remain deeply appreciative of my SWP experience and see it as measurably different than what my self-pub and traditional-pub colleagues have endured.
I believe the SWP founders had/have the highest intentions for their Press. Circumstance and perhaps inexperience led to mistakes in communication that resulted in authors mistrust. I commend the founders for their efforts to make the situation right. Few could have or would have taken the steps that they have taken to rebuild confidence. It is precisely this character trait that attracts me to SWP. Thank you
